Budhigandaki Project Committee Criticizes Government Inaction

Kathmandu. The 'Budhigandaki Hydropower Project National Concern Committee' has strongly objected to the government's indifference towards the construction of the Budhigandaki Hydropower Project, a national pride project. Issuing a press release, the committee accused the current government and people's representatives of not fulfilling their election promises and pushing the project further into uncertainty.

Residents of Gorkha and Dhading, who have been waiting for compensation and resettlement for the past decade, became hopeful with the formation of a new government but have now turned to despair, the press release stated. "Leaders Suden Gurung, who won the election with votes from the Budhigandaki submerged area, is the Home Minister, and Dr. Swarnim Wagle, who considers the same area his ancestral home, is the Finance Minister," the press release said. "It is truly ironic that the project's status remains the same even with powerful ministers from the submerged area."
