Government Advances Legal and Policy Processes for Dalit Rights and Development

Kathmandu. The government has informed that it has moved forward with legal and policy processes with a special action plan for the implementation of the constitutional rights and overall development of the Dalit community. On Thursday, during a meeting of the National Assembly, Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Sobita Gautam, on behalf of Prime Minister Balen Shah, clarified the implementation status of the resolution passed by the House regarding the Dalit community.
Responding to a question posed by MP Bhuwan Bahadur Sunar, Minister Gautam informed that the government's 100-point governance reform agenda includes the announcement of reform-oriented programs along with a formal apology to the Dalit community. She stated that the 'Dalit Rights and Development Bill' has been drafted and received by the ministry for the implementation of the fundamental rights of Dalits as stipulated in Article 40 of the constitution. A committee including experts has been formed to advance this according to the Law Act, 2081.
